Elevation of the Cross


We continue to celebrate the Elevation of the Cross, one of the 12 great feasts of the Church year.

The Cross remains in the center of the solea from September 14th, the Feast Day, through Ninth Hour on the afternoon of Thursday, September 21st.  After the dismissal of all divine services (or aggregate of divine services) during that period, the clergy come to stand before the Cross and they and all the people make three prostrations while chanting each time "Before thy Cross..."  Then the protos ends with "Through the prayers …"
